Chuck and Larry

So we have this beautiful thing in Alabama- its called the dollar theater. The sweet thing about it is that you never feel bad about sitting and watching a movie- hey, its only a dollar and its not a mcdonalds commercial. Tonight, in the spirit of comedy and a good time, my friend and I went and watched Chuck and Larry. For those not familiar with this flick, Adam Sandler and Kevin James pose as gay men to save James' pension for his children. Understanding that it is a movie that will feature a good amount of propaganda, I tried to prepare myself for the dramatic scenes about how it is good to be ok with any amount of gayness.
At the end of the movie (which comes as a great relief), there is a song about freedom. Of course, this is just more propaganda about how we aught to let homosexual people do whatever they want- as if there is anyone stopping them- or able to. What hit me like a ton of lead was the fact that, in the midst of a song about freedom was shackles. There were new chains being placed around the hands and feet of folk that think being gay simply is about orientation or dancing alot. It is not.
Why do we count on the things that bind us down to free us? Why does the married man long for his days of 'freedom'? Why does the Christian secretly wish he weren't a Christian when a smart line comes to our minds or a beautiful girl gives us the eye? Too close to home? Me too. We long for those things that will let us feel free. What a paradox the gospel is when we are freed from being in control. True freedom is found in submission and dependence! If you can make perfect sense of that, do me a favor and explain it to me. If not, lets rejoice in our position as a people freed for the service of the worship of the king.
